my hand is tired from all those leetle squares |
Still, a small, yet struggling populace hangs on. They do their best to carry on with their lives despite the fact that monsters and other unwholesome things lurk nearer to the city walls every day. Some beasts have already gained access and at night they stalk the empty homes and desolate streets.
This city need heroes. It needs people to stand up to the unruly gangs and to put the menacing creatures to the sword. The city needs something to believe in. For the bold, there is an entire metropolis for the taking!
Man, that is a lot of squares. I get tired drawing villages just a tiny fraction of that size.
ReplyDeleteI drank too much coffee this morning and had to work out that caffeine somehow. :)
DeleteNeat! I find it interesting that there are only two gates in the walls of the city.
ReplyDeleteFor me, the hardest part of designing a city is figuring out the layout of the main streets. I don't know why, but my cities tend to look like grids no matter how hard I try. I guess I must have been a Roman (or Harappan) city planner in a past life or whatever. Vornheim is sort of helping me with that, but I'm still a bad city designer.
I had this vague idea that the city only had two gates because it relied mostly on ocean traffic for entrance and egress, but in all honesty I really had no plan and just started drawing squares. I find the whole square drawing thing very therapeutic!
DeleteI really need to check out Vornheim some day. Everything I hear is flattering.
You should scan and post some of your maps some time. It's always cool to see what other people imagine.
This sounds like it would be a great starter for a game. Or even a TV (cable of course) series.
ReplyDeleteI was going to use it for a Pathfinder campaign called "The Mists of Ardis", but I know in my heart that I'm just not a Pathfinder/3x guy.
DeleteCool map! Chris, if you thik that's a lot of squares I need to scan my city map from high school: four larger than legal size sheets of quarter inch graph paper, most about half the size of a square.
ReplyDeleteThat maps sounds awesome. You should post a photo of all the sheets laid out!
DeleteI second that notion.
DeleteThe blocks almost forms letters... A message to the gods?
ReplyDeleteI like that idea!
