The ivy in my median was cut back, poisoned, then dug up. The area has been re-planted with lilies, lavender and lantanas.
Yet the ivy stubbornly persists.
It lurches and creeps skyward from unknown depths. Every few months I must engage in fierce combat, hacking and cleaving until it is weakened and forced to retreat. The ivy reminds me that as a DM I must always mind what's beneath the PCs' feet, because whatever is down there never rests.

I like your thinking... disturbing, but I like it.
ReplyDeleteThank you, sir!

ReplyDeleteThis is definitely something I will keep in mind while fleshing out my maps.
I dig your maps, Bard! With my hex crawl I need to start turning my sights to the underground. There's got to be something down there!
DeleteNice! This reminds me to make "what lies beneath" ever changing and constantly evolving. Keeping the PC's on their toes is always a good thing.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I need to scribble some notes about what might happen to each underground location that the PCs clear.
DeleteWell said, I need to better apply that to my games!
ReplyDeleteNicely put.
ReplyDeleteNow what is that tugging on my foo.....ARGH!
